A little girl I used to babysit asked me to help her with a school project she was doing on Disney animation. For her final project, she asked me to design the cover for a “movie” she planned based on a French fairytale. To get an idea what she wanted, I asked what she wanted her princess to look like. When I asked what body type she wanted her princess to be she said “I don’t know, same as all the other princesses I guess” she said the same for other questions too. You may not realize it, but girls have a narrow view of who can be a princess: even in an imaginary movie there were rules for how a princess should look. This is why we need more representation in the Disney Princess Lineup
Ellen Page & Laverne Cox | GLAAD Media Awards 2014
Ellen Page is a tiny gumshoe detective working to expose a ring of corrupt politicians! Laverne Cox is the charismatic club hostess who gives her the inside scoop on all of her cases! Can they put aside their torrid romantic past to secure a statuette full of top-secret microfilm?
Coming this Christmas: TINY DETECTIVE.
I would watch this a million times.
Sirius Black high-fiving Lily Evans every time she raises her hand in class.
Sirius asking James to high five her when he is took sick to come to class.
Remus Lupin doing it with a sigh and an immediate apology when neither Sirius or James is available.
Peter being overly enthusiastic about being asked to do it, and slapping Lily in the face by accident.
falling in love with a character who gets about ten minutes of screentime in a two hour movie
is that a reaction or an example
boys are the stupidest creatures
When I say “boys are dumb” what I really mean is “boys have been raised in a patriarchal society that forces them into an incorrect and problematic view of masculinity that not only forces them to strip away valuable virtues from themselves, like patience and gentleness, but also forces them them to view and treat women in unhealthy ways that devalues women as people and makes them into objects purely for a man’s benefit”
but it’s a lot faster to say “boys are dumb”
Unnecessary “fillers” in our speech. I’d rather have “like” than up-talking, though (if we had to choose one, that is). Ewwww, up-talking. Then again, a combination of the two would render me homicidal maniac.
Like, did you ever notice? That, like, the speech patterns people, like, think are stupid? Are, like, commonly associated with, like, women?
And, like, there’s this thing? Where, like, women aren’t supposed to be, like, assertive? So they, like, qualify their speech? Because, like, we’re not supposed to, like, stand by our opinions?
1) humiliate women so they don’t feel qualified to speak authoritatively about anything
2) humiliate women for speaking in such a way that reflects how you treat her
3) laugh, you are superior because you don’t use words like “like.” It isn’t as if being a huge stupid asshole has ever made you worse than a woman who speaks with verbal tics.
The nail. It is hit on the head.
Also, why the fuck do you even care if people use fillers in their speech? It’s better than saying something rashly or without thinking (also something women are accused of all the time coz of dem pesky hormones, but a behaviour very often resulting in male-on-male acts of violence).
are girls still pretending they don’t masturbate?
I dunno, is society still teaching girls that anything related to their genitals is dirty and impure?
